Equality in Trinity

Trinity College is a community for everyone. We strive to be inclusive and diverse in everything we do at TCDSU. This section will discuss elements of equality and related support for Trinity students.

Equality Policy - Polasaí Comhionnais

Trinity’s Equality Policy affirms Trinity's commitment to the promotion of equality for staff, students and visitors in all aspects of its activity. Through the implementation of the Equality Policy, Trinity continues to develop procedures and practices which do not discriminate against the protected grounds of the Employment and Equal Status Acts, and endeavours to remove any barriers to full participation in Trinity life. More information can be found at www.tcd.ie/equality/policy/equality-policy/

Dignity & Respect - Dínit & Meas

Trinity should be a place free from discrimintion, bullying and any form of harassment. The Dignity and Respect Policy is in place to set standards of behaviour that all staff and students are expected to abide by. Information on the policy can be found at www.tcd.ie/equality/policy/dignity-respect-policy/

If you are being bullied or harassed, or have witnessed someone else in college being bullied or harassed, please contact me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Discrimination - Idirdhealú

The ‘What do I do now’ document offers more infromation as to what to do regarding discrimination and harassment in college. Check bit.ly/discrimtcd for further information. The Welfare & Equality Officer can also assist you in figuring out next steps, and guide you through the complaints process.

Inclusive Curriculum Project

Commenced in October 2020, the mandate of Trinity Inclusive Curriculum (Trinity-INC) Project is to embed principles of diversity, equality and inclusion across all curricula at Trinity College Dublin. The Project Director is Dr. Rachel Hoare with Dr. Derina Johnson as Project Manager, and Sean Adderley as Student Partner Liaison Officer.

A project of the Office of the Associate Vice Provost for Equality, Diversity and Equality, Trinity-INC works collaboratively across the College community - with staff and students, academic and support spaces - to achieve its goals.

Socio-Economic Background

Trinity is open to all regardless of socio-economic background, and always seeks to widen access to students who have not yet realised their full academic potential. There are many supports for students, regardless of their background, to ensure you can participate in college life to the best of your ability.

Trinity Access Programme (TAP)

TAP contributes to tackling social exclusion through a range of innovative, targeted initiatives for individuals who, for socio-economic reasons, have not yet realised their full educational potential. Its mission is to widen access to third level by addressing factors that contribute to the under-representation of lower socio-economic groups and ethnic minorities at third level. Find out more at: www.tcd.ie/Trinity_Access

TAP also founded, and runs, a national College Awareness Week campaign (www.collegeaware.ie)

Religion

Diversity of religious belief and non-belief is welcomed in Trinity, and the university is committed to non-discrimination on the basis of religion.

Chaplaincy - Séiplíneacht

The Chaplains are representatives of the main Christian Churches in Ireland who work together as a team, sharing both the college chapel and the chaplaincy in House 27. There are two Roman Catholic priests — Fr Alan and Fr Peter — and the Anglican/Church of Ireland chaplain is Revd Steve Brunn. We are a Christian chaplaincy, but we are open to people of all denominations and all of the chaplains are there to help students of any faith (or none) in any way we can.

The Chaplaincy does free lunches every Tuesday from 12.30pm-2pm in House 27. It’s always packed so get there early!

Places of Worship - Ionaid Adhartha

The Trinity Chapel, in Front Square, is unique among Irish university chapels as it has been reconsecrated (in 1973) for use by all Christian traditions. Details of services can be found under the relevant chaplain on the Chaplaincy website.

There is also a Prayer Room in the Goldsmith Building which is open to all faiths - this may be a helpful resource for Muslim students and others.

Societies - Sochaithe

There are a variety of student societies representing religious faiths and the communities / cultures associated with them:
