On September 22 2022, the University Board formally de-recognised the Graduate Students' Union (GSU) due to a number of unresolved issues in its administration, and mandated TCDSU to nominate postgraduates to attend College Committees at the invitation of the Committee chair.
From January 25th to 27th, TCDSU facilitated elections for representatives to the following College Committees. All elected postgraduate Class and Discipline representatives were eligible to run in these elections. Every registered postgraduate was eligible to vote in these elections.
The individuals listed above are interim representatives for the remainder of the 2022/2023 academic year. A new system will need to be established for future years. TCDSU invites all current taught and research postgraduates to feed into a consultation on long-term postgraduate representation by contacting the TCDSU President at This email address is being protected from spambots. The Electoral Commission runs Union elections and interprets our Constitution. The Oversight Commission audits officers to ensure their duties are carried out and they not violate policy or the Constitution. They also interpret and maintain Union policy.
The chair of the Electoral Commission also acts as the Chair of Council, and the chair of the Oversight Commission acts as the Secretary to Council. Together, the Commissions maintain and enforce Union governance while keeping things running smoothly.
Faculty Convenors are the primary representatives of their respective academic faculties. They sit on their faculty executive committee with heads of schools, and on the College's highest academic decision making body, University Council. They also chair their respective Faculty Assembly, which hears local issues from class reps and school convenors — local issues can be anything. Can't access the necessary course materials? There's a broken seat or water fountain in your building? You're not being supported on placement? Reach out to your Faculty Convenor!
Part-time officers (PTOs) sit on Union Forum (UF) alongside the sabbats, faculty convenors, and commission chairs. At UF meetings we report on our work, draft Council motions/discussion items, and resolve any issues with how TCDSU is running. Part-time officers exist so that students with an interest in a particular area can channel that energy into intersectional campaigns, ensuring that the Union is working for everyone who needs it!
Trinity Hall Junior Common Room (JCR) aims to create a vibrant atmosphere within the Trinity Hall Campus through event organisation and the provision of student-directed services. We represent Halls students’ needs within the Students' Union, College, Halls and the Rathmines area.
