Rules & Responsibilities
A security deposit of €5 is paid as well as a nominal fee. This deposit is refunded if the laptop is returned in good condition at the end of the rental term. The security deposit will be refunded upon the safe return of all laptops rented to students under the scheme. The student borrowing the laptop is responsible for the care of the laptop during the rental period. If a laptop or laptop charger is damaged (outside of general usage and wear over time), they must be paid for in full by the student.
If laptop or laptop charger is lost/missing, they must also be paid for in full by the student. If this repayment is not made, the SU will bring this matter to the attention of the relevant college authorities (Junior Dean), and the student's graduation may be suspended or prevented as this will be considered an unpaid debt to the college. Full compensation for lost laptops will be required before possible readmission to the scheme. The deposit will be returned on request in full should a students leave the scheme after having safely returned their rented laptop within an acceptable condition of use.
Short Term Rental
€1 per day's use up to a maximum of 15 working days' use per person. If the waiting list is empty then the individual may rent the laptop for a further month if they wish. Each student will be required to sign a receipt for the laptop supplied which will be retained by the Students' Union. The laptop supplied under the scheme will remain the property of the Students' Union. Membership of the scheme is at the discretion of the Central Committee and the Coordinator.
Any student found to be abusing, defacing or disposing of a rented laptop will be dismissed from the scheme and will be required to pay the charges as outlined above. Late fees of €3 per day for the first 3 days late and €5 per day each day thereafter will apply to rentals not returned on time. Readmission to the scheme may be permitted at the discretion of the Coordinator.
